Dulse
Considered a northern hemisphere species, dulse is an intertidal red algae that hangs in long ribbons from rocks or sometimes on Laminaria species.
Known as dillisk in Ireland, dulse is typically dried and eaten much like chips as a snack straight from the bag.
It is arguably considered to be the bacon of the sea and was a well known nordic tradition in the old times as a "salty" snack.
Dulse is soft and chewy, with a distinctive taste and a rich red color.
It doesn't require any soaking or cooking, which makes it a great snack to be enjoyed at any time.
It's a nutritious and colorful ingredient to add in salads, soups and boosts the flavor of any sandwich creation.
Nutrition
Dulse contains naturally high levels of iodine, a critical nutrient for maintaining a healthy thyroid.
Because of the high level of iodine, its consumption may cause a serious reaction in persons with allergies to fish or shellfish.
